WARNING: THIS DRAWING CONTAINS BIG SPOILER FOR LIGHTNING RETURNS!!!
Owwwww, this must be one of the saddest moment of the game!! T____T After the heartbreaking "farewell scene" (that you can be sure I will draw!!!!! so moving!!) between Lightning and Hope, Lightning gets back to the Ark. I just LOVE the way she looks everywhere around her, wishing Hope would come to greet her as he usually did! And most of all, I love how she stares at Hope's empty seat and says "So you left, Hope...You left me behind... Or am I the one who abandonned you?" (this is my translation of the Japanese dialogues, I hope the english one will stay true to it!).
In this particular scene, you can feel that Lightning realizes that she took Hope's presence for granted... The Ark feels so empty without him (even if Mog comes later to help Light), and the music playing in the background "Lightning's theme-Distant Light" makes this moment even sadder.....
Lightning's outfit is an alternative version of the Equilibrium one. I really like it^^

It's a touching scene. 
And I like your take on that particular Lightning schemata. It makes me think that it'd be something to a tank top, something under a set of armor (without the cape, of course), something like this (note the pants are different from the tank top) :
